Taste and Texture/Slow Grown
The average age of a white-feathered broiler in the U.S. is 42 days. No matter what’s in your feed, a 42 day-old broiler is too young to develop taste or texture. The birds with the most taste are old stewing hens. Age equals taste!
We believe a chicken must be at least ten weeks old before it has the time to develop the taste and texture that nature intended. Our birds taste like chicken, not the sauce you put on the chicken. The meat texture is firm with a good bite,. For maximum satisfaction, we recommend slaughter by fourteen weeks of age. Beyond 14 weeks of age meat texture changes.
Maybe it’s a reflection of Southern lifestyle, but our chickens are bred to be slow grown for ideal taste and texture between ten and fourteen weeks of age.
